No diving for 12 weeks – Time to get a New BCD!
Argghh, I have been out of the water now for 8 weeks and I’m dying to get back in! What does one do when you can’t dive.. well dream of diving and look at diving gear of course! So I have ended up buying a new BCD. To be fair my Old BCD had been with me for 8 years. It had done over 3000 dives and was starting to look a little tatty! It was a great workhorse and apart for the zips on the pockets breaking, nothing had ever failed on it. So bravo Oceanic, I salute you. Therefore I can highly recommend Oceanic. Simple, hard wearing and durable.
So after diving many years in vest / jacket BCD, it was time to look at something more tailor made, comfortable and travel friendly (lightweight). It was time to look at Wing BCD’s. There are so many to choose from but my eventual choice led me to 2 brands – X Deep Ghost and Dive Rite Travel Pac. After much deliberation I ended up with the Dive Rite based on the following reasons –
- Price – I manged to find a great deal through Mikes Dive Store in the UK with made the Dive Rite almost £100 cheaper.
- Using the BCD as a photographer. I read an article on Divernet describing the Ghost and the difficulties he was having with taking split level shots. Sure this could be sorted out with a little weight manipulation but the price was the real incentive to buy the Trans Pac.
- There were also many comments on the waist Strap being to high on the Ghost. I am a tall guy so this would only make it worse!
- A few of my friends already have the Trans Pac and cannot fault it.
So all I have to do now is get back to Thailand and get in the water! 4 weeks to go!! and counting!
